Edward James Hughes OM OBE FRSL (1930 – 1998) was an English poet, translator, and children's writer. Critics frequently rank him as one of the best poets of his generation and one of the twentieth century's greatest writers. He was appointed Poet Laureate in 1984 and held the office until his death.

Sir Jonathan Bate (born 26 June 1958) is a British academic, and biographer, known for his work on Shakespeare, Romanticism, and ecocriticism. He is Professor of Environmental Humanities at University, Arizona State and a Senior Research Fellow at Worcester College, Oxford, where he served as Provost from 2011 to 2019.
