Lawrence George Durrell CBE (1912[2] – 1990) was an expatriate British novelist, poet, dramatist, and travel writer. He was the eldest brother of naturalist and writer Gerald Durrell. Born in India to British colonial parents, he was sent to England at the age of 11 for his education. He started writing poetry at the age of 15. His first book was published in 1935, when he was 23 years old.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Michael Haag (1943-2020) wrote widely on the Egyptian, Classical and Medieval worlds, on the Mediterranean and the Middle East. He was regarded as the world's foremost Durrells scholar. His books include Larry: A Biography of Lawrence Durrell (1912-45), Alexandria: City of Memory, The Durrells of Corfu and The Templars: History and Myth.
