Benjamin Franklin (born 1706) was a scientist, but also an inventor, a diplomat, a printer, a publisher and a political philosopher. He was one of the drafters and signers of the American Declaration of Independence.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Walter Isaacson’s career was as a journalist, editor, television executive, and author - with a specialism in biographies. His other biographees have included Henry Kissinger, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Leonardo da Vinci, and Elon Musk. Isaacson attended Harvard, and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. He was during his career the chief executive officer of the CNN television network, and the editor of Time magazine. He was also the chief executive officerof the policy studies think tank the Aspen Institute.
