For this authoritative biography of Apple founder Steve Jobs, Walter Isaacson interviewed Jobs more than forty times, getting a first hand account of his obsessive, roller coaster, career as an innovator in information technology. He also interviewed more than 100 colleagues and friends of Jobs. Jobs was a driven man, and a fanatical perfectionist. His team developing a new phone would work long hours to make perhaps 40 mock-ups of slightly varying size and appearance. These would be laid out on a long table for inspection by Jobs. He would stride down the table, saying No, No, No - until he (sometimes never) found a design he approved of. After starting out in a workshop in his garage, and making a stunning success of the early Apple desktop computer, Jobs fell out with his chairman John Sculley, was demoted and resigned. But after Apple suffered potentially fatal competition from IBM-standard personal computers, he was re-hired to rescue the company. He proceeded to repeat his early success in personal computers with an even more successful products -laptop computers and the Apple phone. Extraordinarily elegant in its shape and display graphics, the Apple phone set new standards - and a new high price point- for mobile phones. Jobs became immensely wealthy, but died of cancer at the tragically early age of 40.
